Thornit for Ear Mites

Mr W Watchman?s proven formula of 1907

Canker can be caused by a mite, picked up in grass, often dropped from foxes.

The more usual forms are brownish waxy scabs inside the ears. These are made by the mite inside the dark ear canal. The scabs can be dry, or may weep slightly, causing the ears to become smelly.
The other type is much offensive, and stinks of gangrene, while discharging globs of pus.

In both cases the symptoms are;

Scratching

Head Shaking

Rubbing Ears on the floor & General Distress.

There can be red sores, inflammation and blood clots caused by the constant scratching. The standard treatment of drops and antibiotics gives only temporary relief.

The base of THORNIT is lodoform, which was used in the early dentistry and contains no antibiotics.

INTSRUCTIONS - EARS - USE TWICE PER DAY FOR 5 DAYS

Any excess moisture can be gently mopped up with a cotton wool swab.
DO NOT REMOVE WAX. Under normal circumstances powder should NOT be put in the ear hole, but brown wax acts as a cork.

Apply a pinch of powder using the end of a small spoon. Lightly dust around the inner ear avoiding the ear hole. Gently massage it in with your fingers from the outside.

Alternatively, apply using a small make-up blusher brush. Pour some THORNIT into the lid, dip the brush into this then apply directly to the itchy ears.

Relief may come with the first dose but treatment should continue for 3-5 days. When the brown wax starts to move - stop treating. This means the mite is dead and the wax will come away, pushing out the powder and leaving a clean ear.

A pinch of THORNIT powder in each ear, once a week, will keep your pet free from re-infection.

This method can be used for ears, paws, under tail, and any other part of the body with itching.

INTENSE SCRATCHING ON OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY

General

A vet in Australia has isolated the mite that causes intense itching and distress in dogs, who are continually scratching and biting parts of their body. The vet says the ear mite has transferred itself to the scruf of the body. It is minute and very mobile. Vets can find nothing wrong - skin scrapings sent to vet college give a clean bill of health. Shampooing is useless. Treatment - dust Thornit lightly onto the skin. If your pet has long hair, part the hair with a comb, feeding a trickle of Thornit to exposed skin. A little powder goes a long way.

Anus Itching

If your pet pulls it?s bottom on the floor, and it is not gland trouble, the mites could have made a breeding deb under the tail.

Treatment -

Dip brush into Thornit powder. Apply to just under the tail where necessary.

Itchy Paws

Mites can get between the claws, making your pet first lick the paw constantly, turning the pads to jelly. Then your pet may tear out the fur, and finally nibble until there are open sores.

Treatment -

Dip brush into THORNIT powder. Work powder between claws, into pads and a little way up the leg.

IMPORTANT

Contents may settle, shake well before use.
Only a very small amount of THORNIT is needed per application. Care should be taken, as lodoform can stain pale carpet or furnishings.
For External Use Only.
Keep out of reach of children.
